Camera Clubs – My Takeaway

‘I thought I was a decent photographer! Joining a camera club showed me I had a lot to learn, and this talk is all about what I have taken away from being a camera club member.’

Our club members greatly enjoyed Paul’s talk. Right from the outset, we could discern that he had assembled his talk with great thought, charting his fascinating progress as a member of Keyworth CC and showing how the camera club has inspired him to photograph all manner of subject matter, take on projects and compete in both club competitions and national and international exhibitions, gaining many acceptances, awards and distinctions.

He was brave enough to show us his first ever photo from 1979 before unveiling his camera club work which, amazingly, has been produced in only the last six years. We enjoyed a short travelogue of Madrid, an array of eye-catching landscapes, a hugely impressive set of images under the title My Monochrome which showed Paul’s flair for architectural photography, and we glimpsed a club project called 365 where Paul managed to take a photograph every single day of the year. Equally as splendid were Paul’s images of nature including one of the finest caterpillar studies I’ve ever seen, but probably the most memorable sequence included the most striking shots of hoverflies anyone could wish to see. Throughout this talk, Paul took time to explain how many of the images came about whilst sending out a clear message to the photographers in the audience that they, too, could produce equally satisfying results if they could embrace his passion, commitment and drive.
